Q: What is the deadline for the Summer Writing Program?
A: The Early Deadline for the 2014 Summer Writing Program is December 31st, 2013. The Regular Deadline for the 2014 Summer Writing Program is April 15th, 2014.
Q: What is the application fee?
A: $0 (Early Deadline) and $50 (Regular Deadline)
Q: How soon will I hear back from you?
A: We accept applications on a rolling basis. Once your application is received, we will notify you of your status within 30 days. The sooner you apply, the sooner you’ll hear back on whether you’ve been accepted and the sooner you can begin to prepare for the program.

Q: What can I expect to accomplish in the Spring Online/Summer Online/Summer In-person Writing Program?
A: The Writing Program is a series of intensive lectures and workshops focused on the craft of screenwriting, coupled with rigorous writing exercises and individualized weekly feedback on your work from a Hollywood professional. Curriculum includes classes and assignments on structure, character, dialogue, the spiritual journey of a writer, screenings, Q&A sessions with filmmakers, and much more!
Q: How much writing experience do Act One students typically have?
A: Our students range from beginners with no experience to working screenwriters. According to the surveys we conduct at the completion of each program, students of all experience levels find the program challenging and valuable.
Q: How old are most Act One students?
A: Act One students are typically between 22 and 45.
Q: What is the schedule of the Spring and Summer Writing Programs?
A: 5-Day Intensive Workshop (late February for Spring and late May for Summer), followed by either Online Classes or All-day Saturday Classes.
Q: What is the structure/schedule of the 5 Day Intensive Workshop?
A: The 5 Day Intensive Workshop is typically held in late February for Spring and late May for Summer. It runs anywhere from 9AM – 5PM. During the Workshop, students will attend class, with a few hours of quiet time for worship and reflection scheduled intermittently. Due to the intense schedule, students should completely clear their schedules from all other obligations for the week of the week.
Q: What is the structure/schedule for the rest of the Spring and Summer Programs?
A: After the Intensive Workshop, students move on to the Classes which will be held either Online or every Saturday from 9AM to 5PM, from early June through the end of August. During the week, you will meet with your Writing Group which consists of 3-5 students and a Summer Mentor. These meetings are typically held at night. It is possible to work full time during the Summer Writing Program, but expect to spend up to 20 hours per week on writing assignments.
Q: Does Act One provide financial aid or scholarships?
A: Act One does NOT offer traditional financial aid. However, we do allow our students to spread out the cost of the program over several months, and for those who have a genuine need, partial scholarships are available.
