Key F. Payton (Act One Faculty Member) was just ranked by Creative Screenwriting magazine as the 14th best script consultant in America-in the “Cream of the Crop” top 25/top eight percent out of more than 200 consultants rated nationwide. Over 900 screenwriters responded to the Creative Screenwriting survey (it ran back in January and February), turning in names and ratings for any professonal script analysts or consultants with whom they had worked. Congratulations, Key!

Congratulations to Bob Martinez (WP ‘00) and his writing partner who sold their original screenplay, currently titled Deathgames, to the Motion Picture Corporation of America. Principle photography began May 5th in Baton Rouge; the project stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kellan Lutz (of the Twilight saga) and Daniel Dae Kim (of Lost). The movie is set to come out in 2011.

Congrats to writer-director Robert Kirbyson (WP ‘04) whose film Snowmen premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, April 24. Inspired by Kirbyson’s childhood, the family film follows Billy, a 10-year-old boy from a wintry mountain town, and his misfit friends. You can read more about the film on the Tribeca website or the film’s website. The festival website also posted an interview with Kirbyson.

Jim Brandon’s (Jan WP ‘10) web series Dorm Life received three Streamy Nominations. Jim is nominated as part of the Best Ensemble and Best Writing in a Comedic Web Series, and Dorm Life also received a Best Directing nomination. Congrats, Jim!

Congratulations to Andrea Nasfell (WP ‘99) whose feature screenplay Christmas with a Capital C is currently shooting in Seward, Alaska. The movie stars Ted McGinley and Daniel Baldwin, and is directed by Helmut Schleppi.

Congrats to alumni Kevin Willson (WP ‘01), Nathan Scoggins (WP ‘05), Jimmy Duke (WP ‘01), and Ian Eyre (WP ‘01) whose Doritos commercial “Casket” aired in front of over 100 million viewers during the Superbowl on Superbowl Sunday.

Kudos to Act One grad Christina Lee Storm who co-produced To Save a Life, a movie about engaging lost and lonely teenagers. The film is being released by Samuel Goldwyn across the country and opens in theaters Friday, January 22. A number of other Act One alums worked on the project as well. Act One Alumna Melissa d’Arabian’s show, Ten Dollar Dinners with Melissa d’Arabian, returns with new episodes in January 2010. In August 2009, d’Arabian won season five of The Next Food Network Star, beating out thousands of hopefuls for the ultimate dream job: her own Food Network show.
